Undated; Published by Blackie & Son, London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh-Stipple may be defined as the use of dots and flecks instead of lines as the ink-retaining hollows in copper plate intaglio printing; the size and proximity of the dots made it possible to achieve the most delicate gradations of tone.
