TOOLED LEATHER TOBAKO-IRE / OJIME/ KISERUZUTSU
Meiji Period - European Religious Subject

An Embossed, Gilt Lacquered, Polychromed Leather Tobacco Pouch (Tobako-ire) - Ojime - Pipecase (Kizeruzutsu) -Meiji Period - European Religious Subject - the tobacco pouch nicely tooled and decorated with two religious images, the cover with a face, wearing a collar modeled as angels' wings, another winged image on the front of the pouch continuing over to the reverse, both amid scrolls and foliage. The interior is covered in a silk 'bekko' (tortoise-shell) pattern fastened with a concealed ivory-colored clasp with a key-fret pattern. There's a second small pocket in the inside of the Cover. The kiseruzutsu (pipe case) has a hand chiseled textured design on the exterior of an unknown material to resemble rattan; the ojime is a turquoise-colored glass.  Condition: The leather shows some age wear and is dry, which would be commensurate with age and use, and the interior silk is worn and deteriorating somewhat in the crease where the pouch closes. The pipecase has a tiny hole at the bottom.
